Child and Family school advocates provide 1 to 1 specialized support to families and school personnel. At the heart of the work, advocates have a deep commitment to supporting children and families through life's most challenging moments. Child and Family Advocate strive to empower families by providing advocacy, resources, and guidance to ensure that children’s voices are heard and their needs are met.
Advocates support caregivers as they navigate the education system and mediate the implementation of sufficient school services, ensuring student school success.
Why engage a Child and Family School Advocate?
A child in need of school accommodation is not the only family member to need support. As a parent or caregiver, it can be a challenge to understand school procedure, laws and policies. Child and Family School Advocates answer questions about navigating the special education process, community resources, parent rights, family engagement, self-advocacy, and more. Advocates may also serve as representatives and speak on behalf of children and families. It is important that parents feel equipped with the knowledge and tools to advocate for the child, and feel heard when it comes to their child’s care and education.
